That time of year is upon us. Patio weather has started dominating our weeks making us crave happy hours and a nice cold beer with friends. Maybe you also look outside your window at work longingly for the day to end. Maybe you have already used that excuse this week of “I need to head home early for a dentist appointment” when all you are really doing is grabbing a seat on a patio to enjoy a brew.
We all have our favorite watering holes here in Austin that usually have lots of great local beers on tap and of course since we live in Austin Texas we like to support our own. I thought to myself though, why not just get it straight from the source? Austin has so many breweries that not only have some of the best beers in Austin but also some of the best venues to get that “Ahh yes I am at a real Austin brewery” feel. You know what I am talking about!
After years of trying various breweries in and around Austin, here are some of our favorites and really in no particular order because who can say which one is really the BEST.
Jester Kings – They are very well known for their Sour Beers but they also have a wide selection of other locals. The venue is just phenomenal. There are multiple stations to buy and try beer, a outdoor pizza kitchen with brick ovens, and some of the most gorgeous landscape scenery while you enjoy your brews with your crew.
Austin Beerworks – This place screams Austin! Well I mean come on it’s in the title of their brewery. They have an amazing selection of favorites and are always trying out some new creations that you can only taste right at the brewery. They were also the company that invented the 99 pack of beer which was just an awesome idea. I still have the box in my kitchen on the wall.
Friends and Allies – The new kids on the block. They came out swinging and they are bursting onto the Austin beer scene. My first time trying their beer was at the Mean Eyed Cat bar but now they have a location that they can be proud of. They even have board games and jenga lying around if you want to pass the time. Very sleek and totally different than the other breweries as far as decor. Also their logo is just killer.
St. Elmo Brewing Company – Live in South Austin? This is a place I started to frequent after moving south. Great indoor and outdoor area, amazing beers, and they usually have a food truck out back. It’s in a weird area of town and I like it. Very unique Austin brewery.
The ABGB – Another very Austin like venue. Looks like an A frame warehouse that was gutted and turned into this amazing brewery and food venue. Usually pretty busy on the weekend but I have never had trouble finding a spot to sit down and meet some new friends. A great variety of some delicious beers that have super cool names.
In Austin there are just too many to name but these are some of our go tos that we consider favorites. What are your favorites in Austin? Comment on our Facebook page.
